EDM #143 - Draw an Herb or Spice

Oregano from some near my front door. The grounds keepers aren't sure if it's a weed or something to leave alone.

This fountain pen is now loaded with Platinum Carbon Black Ink. The lines are thicker than with Noodler's Black, and that might be a difference in ink flow or using the back side of the page. The Carbon Black dries much, much more quickly on the Moleskine watercolor paper without any problems. The Noodler's Black takes forever to dry, and I have to use a Kneaded Rubber to pick up excess residue before using watercolors. I may be switching from Noodler's Black to the Platinum Carbon Black.

EDM #138 - Draw Something Soft

Wanting to pick cotton, I entered the cotton field and approached one of the plants. As I reached out for the fluffy clump of cotton, I saw a bug! Screaming in terror, I was quickly carried from the field by laughing adults. Toddlers are not good cotton pickers.

Scribbles

Some scribbles from my Raffine sketchbook. I like watercolor on this paper, though I found out the hard way that color will lift easily if I'm not careful. The colors seem to be brighter than in my small Moleskine.

Practicing random brush strokes and paint/water combinations doesn't seem to work for me. I need to work on actual drawings, so I'll spend more time drawing and painting.

EDM #34

Drawn and about to fall. Wish I could get my inked lines looser. Even with minimal pencil guidelines the inked lines tighten as I draw. Yep. More practice to come.

Knowing the scanner would mess with the blue, the image was scanned anyway. This is not the blue in the original sketch, but it's faster than taking a skewed photo.

Bad da Vinci Copies

Practice sessions copying da Vinci drawings.

She looks nothing like the original.

The oak leaves were drawn and shaded from the top down without blocking in the total sketch. I'm surprised the leaves and acorns landed in so close to where they should be. This was done in a small sketchbook, not the Moleskine.
