EDM #127 - Draw a Skyscape

It's scary painting skies, but I have been slowly moving away from solid skies. Have you ever seen a phonier breaking wave?

Another Lighthouse

The page in my sketchbook curled, so the horizon also curled. The Photoshop crop provided straight edges to the page image. I would prefer nice, flat scans that are quicker to do, but neither of my scanners gives good color nor shows the lighter tints. The photos are always skewed and show light falloff, but at least the colors are closer to the originals.

This lighthouse is somewhere on the coast of Portugal.

Am I practicing or feeding my blog? Both.

WetCanvas! Lighthouses #1

This is for the March WetCanvas! Invitation To Paint Lighthouses from around the World. The base drawing is very simple, so I was able to spend my time practicing with watercolor. Usually I am worn out by the time I complete and trace the base drawing. ADD here. This time I'm looking forward to another try. Of course, when I've gone for second tries before, they've been so much worse than the first try. Really horrid.

I've located various "poses" of three different lighthouses, but I'm not sure I'll try all three ... maybe just two.

After stalling for a whole month, I finally tried the February WetCanvas! Invitation To Paint Hawaii. Yep, I can see sky, ocean, and palm trees!

EDM #112 - Draw Something Fresh

An ocean breeze is always refreshing. When driving from inland to the beach, the scent of upcoming salt and sand is exciting. After a day at the beach, the most refreshing thing is to shower off all the accumulated salt and sand!

This is in a little sketchbook made by using the directions at Nina Johansson's blog. More pictures here. The paper used is a half sheet of Raffine 90# watercolor paper, and the finished size is 3-3/4" x 5-1/2". I was uncomfortable with the bounce of the folds, so I used a two-needle coptic stitch to stabilize the little book. I had never stitched a book before, and it was surprisingly easy. Today I noticed a greeting card that I recently received was about the same size as the little sketchbook. I scored another fold in the card and trimmed one side for a perfect fit as an unattached cover.
