Start of the EDM Challenges, #1 & #2

It's time to try the EDM Challenges since I'm becoming more comfortable with drawing. I'll put them in their own Moleskine watercolor book and not worry about how they come out. Just doing them will be a challenge for me. For now I plan to use ink and watercolor.

EDM 1. A shoe! Exciting!

EDM 2. The scan of the lamp does not show the background correctly, though the lamp itself is close to the original.

Some of my scans are very close to the originals, but others are way off. I don't understand why, but I'll worry about it another time.

Wow, these are great! I really like the subtle use of color. I'm also starting to do the challenges from be fore I joined the group and found the shoe to be a lot of fun to draw.

I'm enjoying your drawings! glad you decided to dust off the art "tools".

These are lovely! Sometimes the scans have dark spots where the paper is buckled a little from the watercolor. You may need to see if you can apply even pressure across the whole page to flatten it if this is the problem.

Hi, I really like these drawings! Sometimes I scan my images, sometimes I take pix w/ them using a small tripod, no flash, macro setting, and setting the white-balance for the appropriate lighting. It takes practice. I think I like the images the camera makes better than the scanner, but the scanner is easier (for me), so it depends on my mood. :)

I just love your drawings! Found a link to your blog from the EDM yahoo group.

Had to tell you - I have this exact same lamp! I did a drawing of it awhile back. Yours is much better than mine! :-)
